Who is a Good Candidate for Tenex for Tendon Pain?

Who is a Good Candidate for Tenex for Tendon Pain?

Tendon injuries are, unfortunately, common among people from all walks of life, and like many musculoskeletal injuries, they can be difficult to treat. While conservative therapies can help some people, others are left with lingering pain and mobility issues that take a toll on all sorts of activities, including simple activities like walking, standing, or lifting.

At Jersey Integrative Health and Wellness, our team understands the impact tendon injuries have on our patients’ lives. That’s why we offer the state-of-the-art Tenex® system to help relieve tendon issues without invasive surgery. Here’s how it can help you.

How Tenex works

Your body contains more than 4,000 tendons, and each one plays a role in helping you stay mobile and pain free. Most of those tendons are used every day, multiple times a day, for even simple movements like walking, climbing stairs, and using your computer or phone.

Unfortunately, while tendons are strong and play lots of roles, they’re not particularly flexible. As a result, tendons can be injured if they’re strained or stretched beyond their normal limits.

In addition to overstretching, tendons are also prone to repetitive use injuries. Recurrent use of a tendon can lead to irritation and inflammation, leading to tiny tears in the tendon tissue. Scar tissue forms, creating areas of stiffness that interfere with tendon movement, making pain and inflammation worse.

Breaking up scar tissue

Tenex uses a technique called percutaneous needle tenotomy to deliver waves of ultrasound energy, gently breaking apart stiff “patches” of scar tissue and repairing other tissue damage. Those targeted waves of energy trigger natural healing responses, supporting faster recovery and relief from pain and stiffness.

The Tenex system uses a special needle device to access the damage tendon without surgery or large incisions. Once the scar tissue is broken apart, the device suctions the damaged tissue away, leaving healthy tissue behind.

Best candidates for Tenex treatment

Tenex can be an excellent option for people with many types of chronic tendon pain and dysfunction, including people with:

In most cases, we recommend Tenex when more conservative options, like physical therapy or injections, have failed to provide long-term relief.

It’s also a good choice for people who lead active lifestyles and want to continue to do so. Overuse injuries and inflammation tend to be especially common among athletes who put a lot of stress and strain on their tendons and joints. Because Tenex is minimally invasive, it can help you get back to your activity faster than invasive options like surgery.

The minimally invasive nature of Tenex also makes it a good choice for both younger and older people. Prior to recommending Tenex (or any therapy), our team performs a thorough evaluation to ensure Tenex is the optimal choice.
